A pooja kalash is a decorative, ritualistic vessel used to house the flowers and other offerings made to a deity during Hindu religious ceremonies. The word “kalash” refers to an open-topped water pot traditionally made from terracotta and has a wide bowl-like shape. Pooja kalash is used for many different auspicious Hindu ceremonies like wedding ceremonies, housewarming celebrations, and Puja celebrations. A pooja kalash is traditionally made from terracotta, copper, brass, gold, or silver. Nowadays, you can find them made from almost any material you can think of as long as it looks beautiful.
One of the most beautiful pooja kalash is the Tala Vela Pooja Kalash. Hindus use this beautiful vessel to present offerings to Ganesha. The name “tala veela” comes from the word “tala”, which means “swinging or oscillating”, and “veela” which roughly translates to “a round vessel”. This pooja kalash is a large pot usually made with copper or brass and has intricate designs etched on its surface. The design often includes the image of Ganesha and the other Hindu gods and goddesses that are often present in Ganesha Puja.
